UAE-India travel: Etihad upgrades Kolkata route with new A321LR
Next-generation economy features high-speed connectivity
ABU DHABI: Etihad Airways will enhance its Abu Dhabi–Kolkata service with the deployment of its next-generation Airbus A321LR aircraft, starting 26 September 2025.
The move reaffirms the airline’s strategic commitment to expanding its operations in the Indian market.
The upgraded service will operate between Zayed International Airport in Abu Dhabi and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport in Kolkata. The A321LR aircraft brings a host of premium offerings across all cabin classes, setting a new benchmark for regional air travel.
Passengers travelling on the new aircraft will benefit from luxury First Suites, lie-flat Business Class seats, and an advanced Economy cabin. Features include fully-flat beds, 4K touchscreens, and high-speed Wi-Fi for an enhanced onboard experience.
Enhanced comfort and privacy
The A321LR has been configured to offer wide-body comfort in a single-aisle format. The First Suites are arranged in a 1-1 layout, providing full privacy and forward-facing flat beds. Business Class comprises 14 lie-flat seats, designed for maximum space and convenience.
Economy Class passengers will enjoy modern seating with next-generation in-flight entertainment systems and fast internet connectivity, supporting a more enjoyable journey.
Strategic expansion
Arik De, Etihad’s Chief Revenue and Commercial Officer, stated that India remains a vital market for the airline. He highlighted the introduction of the A321LR on the Kolkata route as part of a broader strategy to improve travel standards and expand Etihad’s regional presence.

The upgraded aircraft also supports Etihad’s wider efforts to improve operational efficiency and comfort. The airline continues to increase access to its global network through key Indian gateways.
